Climate and Health Resilience in Florida: Extreme Weather, Preparedness, and Climate Leadership

Florida communities face growing health and safety challenges from extreme heat, severe weather events, and other climate-related hazards. This webinar brings together leaders from the Florida Public Health Association (FPHA), Florida Clinicians for Climate Action (FCCA), and ecoAmerica to share resources, strategies, and opportunities for action that strengthen community resilience and protect public health.

The Florida Public Health Association (FPHA) will discuss its expanding efforts to elevate awareness of extreme heat as a critical public health issue, including plans to strengthen statewide engagement leading up to Extreme Heat Awareness Week 2027 and its ongoing Call to Action. Participants will learn about advocacy opportunities, partnerships, and approaches for advancing heat resilience across Florida.

The Florida Clinicians for Climate Action (FCCA) will present on the health impacts of extreme weather events and the importance of preparedness and resilience planning. The session will highlight practical strategies for healthcare professionals, public health practitioners, and communities to prepare for and respond to hurricanes, flooding, extreme heat, and other climate-related emergencies.

The webinar will also feature ecoAmerica's Florida Climate Ambassador Training, a leadership development program that equips participants with the knowledge, communication skills, and tools needed to engage diverse audiences and inspire climate action in their communities.

2026-2027 FPHA Mentorship Program (26 Oct 2026)

The FPHA Mentorship Program will aim to build relationships and foster shared learning among Public Health Professionals of all sectors.

The program will match mentees and mentors on common interests and their motivation for participating in the program. This will create an environment that not only educates the mentee about various roles and sectors of public health, but also exposes the mentor to innovative ideas from the mentee.

★Registration will be open from August 17th - September 25th

★A kickoff event will be held October 26th at 12pm EST via Zoom.
