The
Florida Public Health Association, Inc. (FPHA)
is a corporation not-for -profit and the only statewide professional organization exclusively serving public
health professionals in all settings. FPHA was chartered in 1931 and is an affiliate of the American Public
Health Association and of the Southern Health Association. The mission of the FPHA is to advance public health through advocacy,
education and networking. This is done through both the FPHA and the FPHA Foundation. FPHA
also includes liaison positions on the Board with representatives from all of the state’s universities offering public
health or health related degrees, community partner organizations and other public health membership organizations.
This allows for an opportunity to share information of benefit to all public health professionals. The FPHA Foundation,
Inc. is a charitable arm of FPHA and is recognized by the State of Florida as a charitable organization and is included in
the Florida State Employee Charitable Campaign. The Foundation develops and coordinates educational programs,
provides scholarships to public health students, seeks grants for state programs in public health and supports grant applications
for other public health organizations. The benefits of membership include the following: · Opportunities
for professional growth and leadership development through the many volunteer positions on the board and within sections and
committees. · Expansion
of network of colleagues, mentors and friends. · Ability to influence public health policy decisions on the local, state, and national levels. · Participation in two or more Sections, which provides opportunity
to meet and work with colleagues from around the state who are engaged in similar health issues and activities. · Receipt of the Association’s
newsletter with information about members, section and committee activities, progress on current state and national
public health issues, and updates on membership meetings and activities. · Eligibility to receive or nominate a recipient for graduate or undergraduate scholarships to advance
studies in the field of public health or for FPHA awards that are presented at the Annual Educational Conference. · Reduced fees for FPHA’s
Annual Educational Conference and for Regional Educational Programs. · Opportunity to access organizational information and updates through the FPHA website
at fpha.org.
FPHA offers both health agency (institutional) and individual membership. Health
Agency membership allows for the agency to provide membership to staff at a reduced rate, thereby providing a savings to the
agency.
