Greetings!

My name is Brittany Marshall and it is my absolute pleasure to serve as the 2010-2011President for the Florida Public Health Association Student Section (FPHA-SS)!
This is our fifth year in existence and we are still continuously growing and expanding. Most recently, we have developed new committees and appointment positions in order to better serve the students of Florida including our new Professional and Leadership Development Committee and our Student Advocacy and Policy Committee. We are really excited about all of the wonderful programs our Committee Chairs are working hard to implement; this will be an even bigger, better, and groundbreaking year for FPHA-SS!

As the third largest affiliate in the nation, the Florida Public Health Association and its Student Section provide endless opportunities for aspiring, energetic, and highly motivated young public health professionals to take an active and vested interest in the broad profession of public health.  In keeping with the tradition of “advancing public health by advocacy, education, and networking”, the FPHA-SS works tirelessly to uphold its mission of furthering the development of students, the next generation of professionals in public health and health-related disciplines by:
•    Increasing student representation in FPHA
•    Developing and disseminating educational and professional development resources
•    Creating and promoting opportunities for student involvement within FPHA, APHA, and other health-related organizations
•    Providing and sustaining vehicles for communication
•    Advocating for student issues and public and health-related policy
•    Facilitating networking among students and professionals
Membership in FPHA-SS does come with its special perks and advantages which include:
•    Opportunities to present student research
•    Interaction with leaders in the public health field
•    Networking opportunities with future colleagues in public health and related disciplines
•    Eligibility for FPHA undergraduate and graduate scholarships
•    Leadership Opportunities within the Student Section

This website serves as a valuable communication tool to provide information about FPHA-SS programs, initiatives, and membership benefits. Here, you will find information about our various committees, publications, and involvement opportunities. We are constantly seeking motivated students to serve on our many committees. Please feel free to contact our committee chairs and express your interest in their projects. Our website provides a biographical sketch of our current chairs, describing their background and interests. We also encourage you to visit our Facebook and Yahoo!Groups.  Facebook provides information about public health organizations and activities on Florida’s college campuses; scholarships, fellowships, internships, and highlights of student accomplishments in public health.  Click here to join our group. We use Yahoo!Group to upload the minutes from the monthly meetings of the FPHA-SS Executive Board and to share email updates that share opportunities in public health.
I am really looking forward to this upcoming year with the Florida Public Health Association and I hope you are too! If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at bmarshfpha@gmail.com.

Wishing you the highest level of health attainable,

Brittany K. Marshall
