Health Promotion Section

Overview of Health Promotion
Welcome to the Florida Public Health Association Health Promotion website.  This section has been dormant for the last few years but is on its way to becoming more involved in advocacy, resource sharing, health promotion activities throughout the state of Florida, policy development, and many other exciting opportunities.

The FPHA Health Promotion Section is one of 15 primary sections within FPHA. In fact, the Health Promotion section is the largest section, with around 200 members.  Explore this website to learn about opportunities to get involved in the Health Promotion Section.

About Public Health Education and Health Promotion
The mission and key activities of the health promotion section has yet to be written formally.  This is a project we will be working on this year.  If you would like to be involved, please email Rebecca Filipowicz at Rebecca_filipowicz@doh.state.fl.us.   For reference, the American Public Health Association mission for the health promotion section is as follows:

  • To be a strong advocate for health education, disease prevention and health promotion directed to individuals, groups and communities in all activities of the Association.

  • To set, maintain, and exemplify the highest ethical principles and standards of practice on the part of all professionals and disciplines whose primary purpose is health education, disease prevention, and/or health promotion.

Section Activities/Benefits
Section activities will occur year-round, but it is the FPHA Annual Education Conference where Section leaders and members 'kick it into overdrive.'  This section sponsors or co-sponsors scientific sessions.  In the future, this section will be looking into opportunities to host a social and give section awards in various health promotion areas of practice and academics

Also on the horizon for this upcoming year, this section will be looking to have a clearing house where practitioners can share resources, health education materials, best practices, publications and presentations.  In addition, this section will be looking for opportunities to impact public policy through regional projects that work to meet common goals.
